Can You Triple Your eBay Sales Practically Overnight?

By: Scott Memmott

I am going to outline a insider strategy that can skyrocket your eBay sales. This system is so cool. Even so, only a few eBay marketers take advantage of it, in spite of the fact that it takes so little work. What is it?

Backend Sales!

Let me show you an example of a strategy I employed. I found out there were a lot of eBay marketers that were dealing in enormous batches of greeting cards. Incredibly, when I first looked into it, there was a batch of 1,000 cards for sale, with just two days remaining in the auction. Can you guess what the highest bid was?

One Dollar!

Can you believe it? The winning bid went a little higher, but not by much. When the auction closed, the winning bidder was able to get 1,000 greeting cards for under a penny per card.

There are many eBay marketers that routinely market batches of 25 greeting cards for $5.00 or more. What kind of a profit could you make if you bought one thousand cards for $1.00 and then turned around and sold them all for $5.00 per batch of 25 cards? $200.00, which is a 20,000% return on your money! Hard to beat.

By the way, there are deals like that on eBay all the time. You can uncover many of them by conducting some simple eBay market research.

However, this article is not about finding low priced products on eBay and selling them for a profit. That will be the subject of a future article. So now, back to backend sales (no pun intended).

These giant batches of greeting cards become available for auction on eBay regularly. So, I decided to use them as a backend sale product. Here's the method I used.

I purchased an enormous batch of cards for about two cents per card. I then made up an order form to sell the greeting cards for $0.20 each (you can always raise the price later). Each time I sent an item I sold on one of my online auctions, I just tucked in a sample card & envelope in addition to an order form.

When my buyer (winning bidder) got their item, they were surprised and happy to find that I had included a free card that they could use (nice little gift). And, they saw that they could purchase more high-quality cards, for just twenty cents each, in batches of 25. Since most cards routinely retail for two to three dollars per card, that represented a discount of greater than 90%. That's a pretty attractive offer.

The cool thing about this system is that anybody that ever buys anything from me can become a life-time customer. They could buy cards from me for many years. My initial "one-time" sale to my customer can turn into a life-time profit stream, as they reorder greeting cards over and over again.

You can do the exact same thing. All you need to accomplish is identify a consumable product that people buy, use up and buy again. Purchase the item on eBay for cents on the dollar, or from a quality wholesale source. Set up an order form that you can enclose sales. Then, kick back and watch the money roll in. Cool!

Remember, your backend products don't have to be greeting cards. That is just an example of something I happened to notice. You may uncover other fantastic consumable products that are a closer fit for the kind of products you usually sell on eBay. What you want is to find products that people will purchase from you over and over again.

To summarize, backend sales is nothing more than the act of selling more items to buyers who recently purchased an item from you. The most favorable time to follow up with a prospective life-time buyer is when they are already pleased with a purchase and they are in the "buying mood."

Remember, the perfect backend item should be consumable. At the time you capture a new customer, you want to offer him something that he will need to reorder from you whenever he runs out of his supply. This will create life-time buyers that can be the source of a never ending income stream for you.
