Costumes For Family Occasions

By: Raymond Plona

When it comes to celebration, nothing beats a costume party. It’s twice the fun when you are dressed like something else and everyone at the party is doing the same thing. Occasions are plenty in a year, so to get a costume you need a reliable place as you will be coming more than once in a year. The theme shops now not only focus on kid’s costume but they also make adults in plus size costumes as well. There are two different categories of costumes. One is attributed to specific occasions such as Christmas and Halloween. The other is the type that can be worn during regular costume parties, like mermaid or superman costumes.
Children will be children. So their outfit must accommodate their needs. The costume for children may have large pockets on them so the kids can put their small party gifts inside and not lose them. Adults plus size costumes will not need oversized pockets as they quite ridiculous on grownups. Nevertheless, designs and decoration is can be determined by the wearer.
Cotton is the most preferred material in kid’s costumes since it is both lightweight and easy on the skin. The material is very loose thus air can freely circulate inside and let the skin sweat naturally. It is also easier to wash thus even plus size adult costumes use this material. Ladies and young women can also use satin or silk to create an elegant look. This works well in nighttime events since the material looks glossy. It also falls naturally on the body thus the figure is more noticeable. Yet, there are children who do not like the feel of silk or satin on them. Parents must inform the tailor about this before any design is finalized.
The color of the costumes is affected depending on the occasion. There are shades that are most associated with a certain season. During Valentine’s Day, red is the primary color used for kid’s costumes and plus size adult costumes. It symbolizes the loving atmosphere during this time. In Halloween events, red is also acceptable although black is the more preferred shade. This is because the occasion is supposed to be about ghosts and spirits which appear when the lights go out. For Christmas, green and red are the most commonly seen colors. This is because of the effect of Santa and the elves.
Accessories make costume come alive. There are various matching accessories suitable for different types of costumes. They are usually bags, caps, and belts. Take for example a pumpkin bag. They will complement a witch costume. You can add a witch hat too. For Christmas, the belt could be somewhat bigger akin to the ones seen on Santa Clause. Costume for pirates for instance, can be paired up with an eye patch and if you like, a fake sword. Swords are made from light plastic so you don’t have to worry about the children injuring themselves.
The most important aspect of the costume is its fitting. For a plus size person, this is extremely important. The problematic areas would be the arms and pants. Always try out the costume to make sure it is a perfect fit. The tailor should therefore mend any flaw. For children, fitting is equally important. Children can sometimes be very physical and this will pose a problem if their costumes are somehow restricting. Areas that can easily rip should be paid attention to. Santa and witches outfit are ones that are usually vulnerable.
Plus size adults and kids could have fun at any special events without restriction. They can come with same costumes and this will be more fun than ever. Family bonding has never been this fun!
