Guitar Chord Songs - 5 Tips for Instant Improvement

By: Steve Laney

Learning guitar chord songs is just about the best way to get to know the instrument better and to improve your skills in a musical way. Many people find that practicing scales and chords etc is a little mind numbing for them, so learning guitar chord songs can be a perfect remedy for that. I’ve developed some quick tips to help you improve.

Guitar chord song Tip 1:
Don’t be afraid to learn songs that you may not particularly like. Obviously it’s fun to learn your favourite stuff, but taking time out to learn other stuff will help you develop a lot faster and become a more interesting player. Learning stuff that you wouldn’t usually listen to will help you learn new chords and also new rhythm techniques etc, and this will make you become a much more interesting player.

Guitar Chord song Tip 2:
Practice the same things for a week or more. It takes some people a long time to learn any given song, but if you make sure you focus your practice around one particular guitar chord song for a week or so, you’ll pick it up a lot faster.

Guitar Chord Song Tip 3:
Tap your foot with the beat. This is tough at first, but the more you do it the easier it get until it’s second nature. Tapping your foot will develop your internal clock, and this will be endlessly useful when it comes to singing while playing, playing anything complicated or playing any lead guitar.

Guitar Chord Song Tip 4:
Don’t be afraid to make some noise! Guitars make noise-it’s a fact. Sometimes when they are starting out people can be a little timid about the fact that it’s going to make noise-in case parents hear or neighbours or whoever I guess. Forget about that though-you’ll learn a lot more about the guitar if you thrash it around and make some noise with it. Believe me, it’s a lot easier to play loud and learn to play quiet than it is to play quiet and learn to play loud.

Guitar Chord Song Tip 5:
Play it slow. Make sure you can fret each chord perfectly and that each note rings clearly with no buzzing. If you learn to play something without being able to finger the chords properly it’s going to take longer to learn in the long run.

These guitar chord song tips should help you improve all aspects of your guitar playing, so why not put them into practice today?
