How To Play Acoustic Guitar, 6 Steps to Success

By: Steve Laney

Everyday more and more people want to learn how to play acoustic guitar, so if you are one of these people you definitely want to learn the right way to play-trust me it will save you months and months of frustration. There are some great tips here that should help you learn how to play acoustic guitar.

How To Play Acoustic Guitar 1:
Learn some simple songs.
Learning songs is the best way to get ahead on the instrument when you are starting out. It will help you learn some basic songs and also help you get to grips with the mechanics of strumming the instrument and picking the strings etc.

How To Play Acoustic Guitar 2:
Learn to string the guitar and tune it properly. Tuning problems are often down to strings that aren’t correctly fitted, and nothing damages a guitar players confidence more than a guitar that will not stay in tune.

How To Play Acoustic Guitar 3:
Learn variations of chords. Occasionally you may be in a situation with more than one guitarist so it will really help if you have some variations of the same chords. Two guitar players playing exactly the same thing can sound awful, but if you can play the same thing with different chord voicings it can be very interesting indeed.

How To Play Acoustic Guitar 4:
Experiment with different kinds of picks and things. Some people are more comfortable with using their fingers, some people like picks, other people like to attach thumbpicks to their hands. It’s totally your choice, but experiment before you settle with one thing, as you may be missing out on something that naturally works for you.

How To Play Acoustic Guitar 5:
Be consistent in your practicing. Playing for an hour once a week will not give you as much progress as playing for ten minutes each day, or something like that. Improving about an instrument is solely about practice-any great musician in history has become great by practicing. If you want to be great, you’ll need to practice too!

How To Play Acoustic Guitar 6:
Don’t give up! Guitar playing can feel tricky when you are first starting out, but all it takes is a little determination and effort and you will see progress. You improve every time you play the instrument, so every week you will be better than you were last week. Keep that in mind and it’s a lot easier to stay motivated.

If you’re feeling dissuaded while trying to learn how to play acoustic guitar, hopefully these tips will help you get some motivation back and carry on with the practice!
