Karaoke – Reasons To Prevent Yourself From Being The Laughing Stock Performance Of The Night

By: Felicity Lightbody

So it’s the office night out and they’ve gone for a Karaoke Night at a Japanese-styled bar, you think you have a fairly good voice but the stress is increasing from your mates to give a performance worthy of Mariah Carey! Your behaviour on the night can make or break your karaoke performance. If you don’t want to be eclipsed by an upstart in your company, watch what you smoke and drink, (after your performance is fine), otherwise you may be comparable Barry White not Amy Winehouse!

So be sensible, take time the day before to select up to 5 of your favourite songs, just in case someone steals your song, make them all ones you know the words to fairly well and practice makes perfect. Sing the anthems to your mom a couple of days before the karaoke night and take on board their advice and ask for positive criticism.

Some songs will just stretch you too much, its recommended to get someone to select a tune that they think suits your vocal talents and if you prevent over stretching your voice above its natural range then you should perform admirably.. By choosing songs that you like yourself and your satisfaction of the tune itself will help your performance really stand out..

Stay hydrated by drinking lots during the course of the day, a good value singing performance needs your throat is hydrated and vocal chords relaxed and if you smoke try to stay away from them on the few hours leading up to the song, it can twist your singing voice and deep breathing techniques will probably relax you more. Have a little warm up by singing along to a few songs is also a good pointer but obviously avoid notes out of your vocal range and no straining or it will wreck your performance.

A good pointer to avoid being a laughing stock on stage is not to shout the tune and to stay cool and not damage when trying to talk to your friends if you are in a loud bar. In fact, ignore useless conversation that over strain your voice as this can be to the cost of your performance.Spending two hours before you get on to Karaoke podium, chain smoking and swilling down strong Vodka and shouting at your friend about how awful that man from accounts appears, then by the point at which you get on stage your all ready pre disposed to give a bad song.
